    Corfu is a city and a former municipality on the island of Corfu, Ionian Islands, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform, it is part of the municipality Corfu, of which it is a municipal unit.It is the capital of the island and of the Corfu regional unit. The city also serves as a capital for the region of the Ionian Islands. The city (pop. 28,185 in 2001) is a major tourist attraction, and has played an important role since the 8th century. The city has become known as a Kastropolis (Castle City) because of its two castles.In 2007, the old town of the city was inscribed on the UNESCOWorld Heritage List.The municipal unit of Corfu city has a land area of 41.905 km2(16.180 sq mi) and a total population of 39,487 inhabitants. Besides the city of Corfu/Kérkyra, its largest other towns are Kanáli (pop. 3,556), Potamós (2,365), Kontokáli (1,616), Alepoú (1,606), and Gouviá (952).

    Achilleion (Greek: Αχίλλειο or Αχίλλειον) is a palace built in Corfu by Empress (German: Kaiserin) of Austria Elisabeth of Bavaria, also known as Sisi, after a suggestion by Austrian Consul Alexander von Watzberg.Elisabeth was a woman obsessed with beauty, and very powerful, but tragically vulnerable since the loss of her only son, Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria in the Mayerling Incident in 1889. A year later in 1890, she built a summer palace in the region of Gastouri (Γαστούρι), now the municipality of Achilleion, about ten kilometres to the south of the city of Corfu. The palace was designed with the mythical hero Achilles as its central theme. Corfu was Elizabeth's favourite vacation place and she built the palace because she admired Greece and its language and culture.Achilleion's location provides a panoramic view of Corfu city to the north, and across the whole southern part of the island.

We start at Corfu Town. Corfu Town  is a major tourist attraction, and has played an important role since the 8th century. The old town of the city was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The old fortifications of the town, formerly so extensive as to require a force of from 10,000 to 20,000 troops to man them. There is promenade by the seashore towards the bay of Garitsa ) and also a handsome esplanade between the town and the citadel called Liston. Corfu town today is a vivid tapestry of cultures—a sophisticated weave, where charm, history, and natural beauty blend. Stroll down narrow cobbled streets and admire the Venetian influence in the architecture, as the town's history comes to life. From Corfu Town we continue to Kanoni. From Kanoni you can admire the famous view of Mouse Island (‘Pontikonisi’). According to the legend Mouse Island was formed when the ship that had taken Odysseus back to Ithaca, his home port, was turned to stone by Poseidon. Under the Hill of Kanoni is the Convent of Vlachernas, place that is maybe the most photographed spot in Corfu.

We continue to Achillion Palace. Achilleion Palace, built by the Empress Elisabeth “Sissy” of Austria in 1891, and later owned by Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany. You will visit the museum, as well as its beautiful gardens with spectacular views. The palace was designed with the mythical hero Achilles as its central theme. Corfu was Elizabeth's favourite vacation place and she built the palace because she admired Greece and its language and culture.Our journey leads North to Paleokastritsa. Paleokastritsadescribed as the jewel of Corfu, this Arcadian, red-roofed town never fails to enchant. Paleokastritsa is one of the most famous locations on the island.You will visit the Byzantine Monastery of the Virgin, monastery’s gardens where you have spectacular views over the beautiful green and blue bays of the area with their crystal-clear turquoise waters. Belavista is next, situated on the beautiful Pelekas Bay (known to locals as “Konogialos”)with amazing views of the bay. Our journey continues to Makraves. A lovely place to visit for outstanding views is the ancient ruin of Angelokastro perched high on a rock overlooking the sea and the beautiful bays of Paleokastritsa. We continue to cruise North. You will visit Sidari and famous Canal d'amour - Several rock formations form the wonderful environment. They are scattered here and there in the clear blue Ionian Sea, separated by the water. The wonderful shapes of the yellowish 'islands', cut through the water and soar gloriously against the skyline.
